How to Get the Bean Achievement in How to Fish

Bean is earned by finishing the game within one hour. Use the route below as a practical community baseline, then time your own run with the private browser timer.

Official condition Finish within 1 hour · Route 5 islands · Planning target 59:00 · Timer Browser-local

Quick answer

The official rule is simple; the difficult part is protecting your time between story gates.

Official

Finish the game within 1 hour

Steam lists Bean with the exact description “Finish the game within 1 hour.” The public achievement page lists 28 achievements in total.

Community route

Use story gates, not collection detours

Current community runs prioritize the required bait, progression hand-ins, one focused weapon plan, healing, and the next boat route. Optional fish and cosmetics can wait.

Evidence limit

Treat splits as targets

The five split times below come from community reports. They are not official par times, and this guide has not been verified by hands-on play.

Bean speedrun timer

Start when the timed campaign run begins. Your timer and marked splits stay in this browser only.

Five-island route and target splits

Mark a split after the progression hand-in is complete, not when the boss first appears.

Island Cumulative target Route focus Do not lose time on
Lighthouse 5:00 Complete the opening progression, prepare the required story item, defeat the first boss, and leave when the boat route is ready. Optional fishing, broad upgrades, or a perfect inventory.
Forest 15:00 Collect the required three leeches while moving through the quest area, complete the Giant Piranha chain, and secure the hand-in. Searching for extra creatures after the objective is complete.
Desert 30:00 Follow the Blue Shark and Pufferfish progression, keep the correct story trophy separate, and continue as soon as the next route opens. Cosmetic purchases and optional collection runs.
Rocks 45:00 Use the story lure for Tuna, complete the Albatross chain, and preserve the Albatross Head for the hand-in. Buying several unfinished weapons instead of focusing one carry weapon.
Volcano 59:00 Finish the scientist’s required task, prepare final-island ammunition and recovery, defeat the normal whale, then carry the route into the final encounter. Starting the final section without healing, ammunition, or a clear navigation plan.
What the times mean: 5:00, 15:00, 30:00, 45:00, and 59:00 are community planning targets from a reported successful route. Steam only states the one-hour completion condition. The 59:00 target leaves a small practical margin; it is not a separate achievement trigger.

Easy Mode: useful, but not a guarantee

Make the difficulty decision before the timed attempt, not after a slow boss fight.

Patch 1.0.9

The documented changes

Public patch coverage reports that Easy Mode gives creatures 25% less health and 50% less damage. That makes it the common choice in current community Bean routes.

Check your version

Achievement compatibility is not explicitly guaranteed

The official wording checked for this guide describes the difficulty changes, but does not explicitly say that Easy Mode enables or disables Bean. Use the current achievement page and your current game version as the authority.

Do not build the run around an old island skip. Patch 1.0.5 addressed progression behavior that allowed players to bypass island access. This guide treats the five-island order as the dependable baseline and does not promise that legacy skips still work.

Spend for the bottleneck

A Bean attempt is a sequence of required gates, not a normal completionist save.

Weapon plan

Focus one controllable weapon

Concentrate upgrades on the weapon that carries several boss encounters. Several half-upgraded weapons create shopping time without proving a faster route.

Story items

Keep required items distinct

Required bait, trophies, heads, skeletons, and other progression items should not be sold, cooked, or mixed with ordinary catches until the hand-in is complete.

Run safety

Buy recovery before the fight

A death costs travel, setup, and another encounter. Carry enough healing and final-island ammunition to finish a clean attempt instead of improvising during the boss fight.

What breaks a Bean attempt?

Use this checklist before resetting or deciding whether a slow run is still useful practice.

  • Death: One failed encounter can erase the travel and shopping margin. Practice the boss transition before chasing a record.
  • Boss escape: Keep safe damage going while watching the encounter’s escape indicator instead of assuming a low health bar is enough.
  • Lost progression item: Confirm the story trophy or quest item before selling, cooking, or picking up a replacement.
  • Unplanned spending: In co-op, agree on the next purchase before using shared money reserved for bait, healing, or the carry weapon.
  • Unstable lobby: Fix loading, invite, or player-join problems before starting the timed attempt.
  • Practice run behind schedule: Finish for route knowledge or reset deliberately; do not invent an unverified skip to rescue the clock.
  • Easy Mode uncertainty: If achievement eligibility matters more than speed, verify the result in your current version before treating the route as complete.

Bean achievement FAQ

What exactly does Bean require?

Steam’s official description is “Finish the game within 1 hour.” The achievement page does not state a separate requirement for any individual island split.

Can I use Easy Mode?

Current community routes commonly use Easy Mode. Public Patch 1.0.9 coverage reports 25% less creature health and 50% less creature damage, but the public wording checked for this guide does not explicitly guarantee Bean eligibility. Confirm the result in your current build.

Are these the official island time limits?

No. The split table is a practical community planning baseline. The official Steam condition is one-hour completion; the split targets are not separate Steam rules.

Does this timer track game time?

No. It is a simple browser stopwatch. It uses your local browser clock, saves state in localStorage, and has no access to the game process or Steam account.

Should I use an old island skip?

No reliable skip is promised here. Patch 1.0.5 addressed island-access progression behavior, so practice the normal five-island route unless you have independently confirmed a current, legitimate alternative.

How this guide was checked

Checked August 28, 2026. Steam’s official achievement page confirms the Bean name, the description “Finish the game within 1 hour,” and 28 total achievements. The route, target splits, Easy Mode use, and timer concept are community-reported and are labeled that way here.

This is an unofficial fan guide and has not been verified by hands-on play in this project. We do not claim a unique best route, a guaranteed Easy Mode achievement result, official split times, exact boss health, exact damage values, or a working legacy skip.
