How to Fish Bosses in Order

The cleanest public-source route is six main-story encounters across five story gates. Prepare the trigger item, keep the trophy, and watch for the white escape bar before you move on.

6 main encounters · 5 story gates · 11 boss/special entries in public lists · Checked Aug 28, 2026

Quick answer: what counts as “all bosses”?

Different public pages count the same content in different ways. Keep the categories separate so the route stays useful.

Main route

Six encounters

Spider Crab, Giant Piranha, Pufferfish, Albatross or Terrorizing Bird, Bowhead Whale, and Mutated Bowhead Whale. The last whale sequence is why some guides show six encounters.

Progression count

Five story gates

Some guides count five gates or island checkpoints instead of every separate encounter. That is a progression count, not a claim that one of the whale fights does not exist.

Full list count

Eleven public entries

A broader list also includes optional bosses, mini-bosses, and special creatures. Those entries are listed separately below and are not all required for the main route.

Main boss order

Use the current objective and item text in-game as the final authority. Public guides sometimes use alternate names for the same encounter or progression item.

Step Encounter Area / gate Trigger or setup After the fight
1 Spider Crab Lighthouse / opening gate Empty Beer Can Keep the trophy or progression item and complete the associated hand-in before following the next route.
2 Giant Piranha Island 2 / Forest gate Modified Leech from the leech quest Return the boss-related trophy to the correct NPC and confirm the next island route.
3 Pufferfish Island 3 / Desert gate Carrot or the current objective item shown by the game Finish the related hand-in or objective update before treating the island as cleared.
4 Albatross / Terrorizing Bird Island 4 / Rocks gate Tuna body Use cover during the fight, preserve the trophy, and check the route marker after the hand-in.
5 Bowhead Whale Volcano / whale sequence Fish Bucket Do not sell or discard the whale-related progression item while the sequence is active.
6 Mutated Bowhead Whale Volcano / final whale encounter Bowhead Whale Complete the final trophy hand-in or objective update shown in the current game version.

Why the names vary: public guides describe the fourth encounter as Albatross, Giant Bird, or Terrorizing Bird, and the final sequence as Whale plus Magma Whale or Mutated Bowhead Whale. Follow the creature model, objective marker, and current item text in your game if the wording differs.

Optional bosses, mini-bosses, and special entries

These five entries appear in the broader public list of eleven boss or special creatures. They are kept separate from the six-encounter main route.

Optional entry

Sunfish

Public bait lists associate Sunfish with the Beginner Boss Lure. Treat it as a separate encounter unless your current objective makes it part of the route.

Optional entry

The Old Pike

The Old Pike is grouped with the Beginner Boss Lure in public guides. The exact classification and required order can vary by source.

Optional entry

Blue Shark

Public bait lists associate Blue Shark with the Standard Boss Lure. Confirm the current shop and creature entry before spending money.

Special entry

Tuna

Tuna appears in the broader boss or special-creature list and is also used as the trigger body for the bird encounter in public progression guides.

Optional entry

Goblin Shark

Public bait lists associate Goblin Shark with the Scientific Boss Lure. This page does not claim a mandatory story position for it.

Boss bait and lure reference

These are public guide values, not a permanent price promise. Check the current shop UI before buying.

Item Public price Known association Confidence note
Empty Beer Can $12 Spider Crab Cross-source guide value; version-sensitive.
Beginner Boss Lure $40 Sunfish and The Old Pike Public bait list; optional-entry classification can vary.
Standard Boss Lure $280 Blue Shark Public bait list; verify the current shop price.
Professional Boss Lure $1,200 Tuna Public bait list; verify the current shop price.
Scientific Boss Lure $5,800 Goblin Shark Public bait list; verify the current shop price.
Quest items are different from shop lures: Modified Leech, Carrot, Tuna body, Fish Bucket, and Bowhead Whale are described by public guides as encounter triggers or progression items. Do not sell, cook, or discard a unique-looking item until the current objective and NPC hand-in are complete.

The white escape meter

The meter matters more than an unverified universal countdown.

1

Look below the health bar

Public sources describe a second white bar appearing below the boss health bar. When it is present, treat it as an escape timer rather than extra health.

2

Keep safe damage going

Prepare ammunition and healing before the trigger, then keep a steady damage rhythm. Avoid spending the entire encounter on risky repositioning or unnecessary small targets.

3

Use cover and the room

For projectile or aerial encounters, use terrain and cover where available. For the whale sequence, stay inside the active combat area and keep a clear retreat path.

4

If the bar empties, expect a reset

Public guides report that the boss can leave or reset when the escape bar runs out. The exact time, universal reset behavior, and whether every difficulty behaves identically are not officially published here.

No fixed seconds claimed: this guide intentionally does not give a single escape time for every boss. Patch changes, difficulty, room setup, and encounter-specific behavior can make a remembered countdown misleading. Watch the bar in the current run.

Before you trigger a boss

A short preparation pass prevents the most expensive failed attempts.

  • Objective active: Confirm the current NPC, quest, or route marker before consuming the trigger item.
  • Trigger ready: Carry the bait or progression item named in the current game UI.
  • Ammo stocked: Buy or collect enough ammunition for a sustained fight; exact shot counts are not verified here.
  • Healing available: Bring recovery items before starting rather than searching for them during the encounter.
  • Escape path clear: Know where you can retreat, especially for Pufferfish, bird, and whale encounters.
  • Inventory protected: Leave room for the trophy and keep unusual progression items until the hand-in is complete.
  • Difficulty understood: Easy Mode and balance values are version-sensitive; public patch notes do not guarantee every achievement or route interaction.

Encounter-by-encounter strategy notes

These are practical public-guide principles, not a claim of one perfect loadout.

Lighthouse

Spider Crab

Use its attack windows to deal damage, then reset your position before the next pass. Do not burn the Empty Beer Can until you are ready for the encounter.

Island 2

Giant Piranha

Keep the main target in view, clear small threats only when they block movement, and maintain enough space to react to the water-side attack pattern.

Island 3

Pufferfish

Use trees or other available cover to break dangerous approaches. Keep a route around the arena instead of trapping yourself against terrain.

Island 4

Albatross / Terrorizing Bird

Use cover and watch the bird's attack path. Keep the Tuna body and the resulting trophy separate from ordinary catches until the progression step is finished.

Volcano

Bowhead Whale

Prepare before using the Fish Bucket and stay inside the active combat area. Keep your camera and movement space clear for the next whale step.

Final encounter

Mutated Bowhead Whale

Treat it as a separate encounter, not merely a renamed health phase. Watch the escape meter, maintain safe damage, and follow the final hand-in shown by the current version.

Boss FAQ

Why do some guides say 5 bosses while this page says 6 encounters?

They are using different units. Five is commonly used for story gates or island checkpoints. Other guides split the final whale sequence into Bowhead Whale and Mutated Bowhead Whale, which gives six main-story encounters. The broader Fishipedia-style list contains 11 boss, mini-boss, or special entries.

What happens if a boss escapes?

Public reports say the boss can leave or reset when the white escape bar empties. Expect to prepare the trigger again unless the current objective says otherwise. No universal fixed escape time is claimed here.

Do I need to hand in the trophy?

Public progression guides agree that defeating the boss and completing the related trophy hand-in are separate steps. Keep the distinct drop and follow the current NPC, objective, or route marker before selling or discarding it.

Are the prices in the bait table guaranteed for my version?

No. The listed prices are publicly reported values checked on August 28, 2026. They are version-sensitive and should be compared with the current in-game shop before you buy.

Does this page contain exact boss health or damage numbers?

No. This project has no hands-on verification for exact boss health, damage, drop rates, fixed escape seconds, or a unique best weapon. Those values are intentionally omitted rather than presented as certainty.

How this guide was checked

Checked August 28, 2026. The main sequence and trigger relationships were compared across How to Fish Game Wiki, GamesHub, Games.GG, and AllThings.How. Those sources support the six-encounter / five-gate distinction, the broader eleven-entry list, trophy hand-ins, and the white escape-meter explanation.

This is an unofficial fan-made guide. It has not been verified by hands-on play in this project. Exact boss health, exact damage, exact drop rates, fixed escape seconds, universal difficulty behavior, one best weapon, and one guaranteed route are not claimed. Public lure prices are version-sensitive and may change after a patch.
