How to Fish Island Progression
The public route is Lighthouse → Forest → Desert → Rocks → Military / Volcano. Each stage is more than a boss fight: finish the active request, keep the unique progression item, complete the hand-in, and then confirm the next marker.

Quick answer: the island order
Use the stage names below as a route map, not as a promise that every public guide uses identical labels.
Stages 2-3
Forest → Desert
The Forest leech quest leads to Giant Piranha. The Desert Tourist request leads to Carrot, Pufferfish, and the next coordinates.
Stages 4-5
Rocks → Military / Volcano
The Rocks Tuna and bird sequence leads to the Scientist, Fish Bucket, Bowhead Whale, and final Mutated Bowhead Whale route.
Five-stage island route
In every stage, separate the encounter from the unlock step. A defeated creature does not necessarily mean the next island is ready until the related hand-in is complete.

Why there are five stages but six encounters: public guides commonly count five story gates or island checkpoints, while other guides split Bowhead Whale and Mutated Bowhead Whale into two main encounters. This page uses five stages for navigation and keeps the six-encounter wording linked to the Bosses guide.
Progression checklist
Use this when you are moving through the story, especially after a boss fight or a save reload.
Lighthouse to Forest
- Objective active: Check the Lighthouse NPC request before using Beer Can or Empty Beer Can.
- Spider Crab complete: Keep the distinct result instead of selling it with ordinary catches.
- Hand-in complete: Return to the Lighthouse Keeper and wait for the objective or route update.
- Boat ready: Confirm Boat Keys are present and the boat can be selected or equipped.
- Radar equipped: Purchase or equip Radar only after the relevant route step is available, then look for the next marker.
Forest to Desert
- Leech counter: Collect exactly 3 ground leeches for the active Forest request.
- Lakeside return: Give all three to the quest NPC and keep the resulting Modified Leech.
- Piranha result: Preserve the Giant Piranha Skeleton or current equivalent item until the next hand-in.
- Coordinates confirmed: Check the map, Radar, or objective text for Island 3 rather than assuming a boss defeat changed the route.
Desert to Rocks
- Tourist request: Read the current request and prepare the Carrot before triggering the encounter.
- Pufferfish result: Keep the trophy, fin, or other unique progression item named by the current game UI.
- Hand-in done: Talk to the correct NPC again if the route marker has not changed.
- Optional content separate: Bing Bong and other collection goals can wait; they are not a replacement for the main gate.
Rocks to the final sequence
- Lure ready: Confirm the Professional Boss Lure and current shop price before spending money.
- Tuna preserved: Do not sell or discard the Tuna body while the bird step is active.
- Bird hand-in: Keep the head or progression drop and complete the NPC objective.
- Scientist route: Follow the updated objective to the Fish Bucket, Bowhead Whale, and Mutated Bowhead Whale steps.
Boat Keys and Radar: what they do
Boat access and route discovery are connected to progression, but they are not the same check.

Finish the opening hand-in first
The Lighthouse sequence is the first gate in the public route. If the NPC dialogue or objective has not advanced, buying another item or sailing around will not replace the missing hand-in.

Check Boat Keys separately
Boat Keys are part of the practical transition to the next route. If the boat is missing after loading, treat that as an access or save problem and check the current objective before assuming the island route is lost.

Use Radar as a route aid
Public walkthroughs describe purchasing and equipping Radar, then following a green or otherwise highlighted marker toward the next island. Radar reveals a route; it does not complete an NPC objective for you.

Re-check after every hand-in
After a trophy, body, head, or whale-related item is delivered, reopen the current objective and route marker. This separates a missing marker from a missing story completion.
Current UI wins: Radar price, Boat Keys behavior, marker color, and equipment wording can change. Follow the item text, NPC dialogue, objective counter, and route marker shown in your current build instead of treating a remembered price or color as permanent.

Run these checks in order before repeating a boss fight.

Read the active objective
Look for an NPC request, an item counter, or a hand-in instruction. A completed health bar is not proof that the story objective has advanced.

Check the inventory for the unique item
Look for the Spider Crab result, Giant Piranha Skeleton, Pufferfish trophy or fin, bird head, Tuna body, Fish Bucket, or Bowhead-related item. Do not sell, cook, discard, or store it somewhere inaccessible until the current hand-in is complete.

Return to the NPC
Public guides describe the next coordinates as a result of the NPC or quest hand-in. Talk to the relevant NPC again even if the encounter itself is already finished.

Check Boat Keys, Radar, and equipment
Confirm that the boat is available, Radar is purchased or equipped where required, and the route marker is being viewed from the correct island or map state.

Reload only after protecting the item
If a save or loading issue is suspected, protect the unique progression item first, then reload and compare the objective, inventory, boat, and route marker. Patch behavior can be version-sensitive.
Do not assume a point of no return: no universal point of no return is established by the sources checked for this guide. The safer rule is to preserve unusual quest items and follow the current objective rather than to discard them after a fight.

Collection
Fishipedia and special creatures
Bing Bong, Drip variants, and other special creatures can be worthwhile collection goals. Use the Fishipedia tracker, but do not confuse a collection entry with a story gate.
Achievements
Bean and completion runs
A one-hour Bean attempt is a separate challenge layered over the main route. Use the Bean Timer after you understand the progression chain.
Island progression FAQ
What is the exact island order?
The cross-source route is Lighthouse → Forest → Desert → Rocks → Military / Volcano. Some pages shorten the final stage to Volcano and use Military for the earlier part of that same endgame sequence.
Why did I beat the boss but not unlock the next island?
Check the hand-in. The public route repeatedly separates the encounter from the follow-up delivery: Spider Crab result to the Lighthouse Keeper, Giant Piranha result to the next objective, Pufferfish result to the Desert route, bird result to the Scientist sequence, and whale items during the final route. The current NPC dialogue and objective text take priority if names differ.
Do I have to complete Bing Bong before moving on?
No main-route evidence used for this page makes Bing Bong a replacement for the Desert gate. Treat it as optional Island 3 content and return to the active Tourist, Pufferfish, or route objective when you want to continue the story.
What if a guide calls the boss by another name?
Public pages vary between Albatross, Terrorizing Bird, and Giant Bird, and between Mutated Bowhead Whale, Magma Whale, and Lava Whale. Match the creature model, current objective, inventory item text, and NPC dialogue in your build rather than forcing all public labels into one official name.
Did Patch 1.0.10 change Radar or the island route?
The checked public update summaries describe save, connection, and gameplay maintenance changes, but they do not establish a new island order for this page. If a loaded save has a missing boat, item, or marker, re-check the objective and inventory and treat that as a save or access issue rather than inventing a new route.
