Normal catch pools
Free Lure, Hot Dog, Beginner Lure, Standard Lure, Professional Lure, and Scientific Lure cover the regular catch groups. Some creatures are reported in more than one early pool.
Bait-first lookup · regular pools · special triggers
Choose the lure you have, or search for the creature you need. Regular Lures, Boss Lures, and quest triggers are separated so you do not waste a special item on the wrong catch route.
For a regular creature, match the rod and lure pool first. For a boss or story entry, use the listed encounter item instead of cycling normal lures.
Free Lure, Hot Dog, Beginner Lure, Standard Lure, Professional Lure, and Scientific Lure cover the regular catch groups. Some creatures are reported in more than one early pool.
Beginner, Standard, Professional, and Scientific Boss Lures are separate from the regular tiers. The boss table below maps each public catch relationship.
Empty Beer Can, Modified Leech, Carrot, Tuna, Fish Bucket, Bowhead Whale, and Coconut are not interchangeable normal lures. Follow the objective and item text in-game.
Search by lure, fish, island, or category. The table groups the site's 38 regular entries and 11 boss or special entries without duplicating the full Fishipedia database.
Showing all lookup rows.
| Bait / lure | Category | Catch pool or target | Usual island | Rod / route note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free Lure | Regular Lure | Brown Crab, Shrimp, Rock Crab, Mackerel, Gar, Pike, Goldfish | Lighthouse; Forest | Crab Fishing Rod for the crab pool; Fishing Rod for the Forest pool. Rock Crab and some early fish are reported with more than one lure label. |
| Hot Dog | Regular Lure | Rock Crab, Lobster, Piranha | Lighthouse; Forest | Use the current bait slot and the matching rod. Public lists may call this item Sausage rather than Hot Dog. |
| Beginner Lure | Regular Lure | Piranha, Pike, Cod, Goby, Goldfish, Perch, Triggerfish | Forest | Fishing Rod pool. Pike, Goldfish, and Piranha are the main rows where public lists report overlap with another early lure. |
| Standard Lure | Regular Lure | Salmon, Catfish, Clownfish, Sea Urchin, Yellow Boxfish, Needlefish, Bluegill, Seahorse, Bowlfish, Angelfish | Desert; Angelfish also has a Volcano report | Fishing Rod pool. Boxfish naming varies across public lists; the site's Fishipedia uses Yellow Boxfish for this row. |
| Professional Lure | Regular Lure | Bass, Eel, Red Snapper, Sengarat, Halibut, Tigerfish, Flying Fish, Voxelfish, Parrotfish, Dripper | Rocks | Fishing Rod pool. Use the current encyclopedia name if your build displays a different spelling or creature label. |
| Scientific Lure | Regular Lure | Blobfish, Oarfish, Anglerfish, Stonefish, Superdwarf Fish | Volcano | Fishing Rod pool. Patch 1.0.10 was reviewed; no documented change to this regular pool was found in the sources checked. |
| Beginner Boss Lure | Boss Lure | Sunfish; The Old Pike | Forest | Separate boss encounter item. Check the current shop prompt and objective before buying because prices are version-sensitive. |
| Standard Boss Lure | Boss Lure | Blue Shark | Desert | Separate boss encounter item. Do not substitute Standard Lure for Standard Boss Lure. |
| Professional Boss Lure | Boss Lure | Tuna | Rocks | Tuna also appears as the story trigger for the Albatross route. Treat the caught Tuna or Tuna body as a progression item when the objective calls for it. |
| Scientific Boss Lure | Boss Lure | Goblin Shark | Volcano | Separate boss encounter item. Use the live shop and quest UI for the current price and availability. |
| Story triggers | Quest item | Empty Beer Can → Spider Crab; Modified Leech → Giant Piranha; Carrot → Pufferfish; Tuna → Albatross; Fish Bucket → Bowhead Whale; Bowhead Whale → Mutated Bowhead Whale | Depends on the encounter | These are progression or quest routes, not a normal catch pool. Keep the item until the current objective or hand-in is complete. |
| Coconut | Special bait | Bing Bong | Island 3 · Desert | Public guides report a central palm-tree purchase and a $350 price. Verify the interaction prompt in your build; Coconut is not a regular lure. |
If you already know the creature, use this short route map before opening the full database.
Search the lookup for the creature name, then equip the listed regular lure and rod. Start with the catch pool; the island column is the usual progression area, not a promise of an exclusive coordinate.
For Spider Crab, Giant Piranha, Pufferfish, Albatross, Bowhead Whale, and Mutated Bowhead Whale, stop cycling regular lures and follow the quest-item route shown above.
The Fish Locations database adds each creature's usual island, rod, type, and private normal/Drip tracker. It is the better view when you need a complete collection checklist.
Use these acquisition categories as a planning shortcut, not as a promise that a price or shop inventory is permanent.
| Type | Typical acquisition | What to verify in-game |
|---|---|---|
| Free Lure | Listed as the free or basic starting option in public guides. | Some sources call it Basic Lure, The Chip, or another label. Follow the current shop or inventory name. |
| Hot Dog and regular tiers | Use the current shop or lure progression for Hot Dog, Beginner, Standard, Professional, and Scientific Lures. | Names, prices, and unlock timing can be version-sensitive. Do not treat a guide's old price as a guarantee. |
| Boss Lures | Buy the encounter-specific tier from the current shop when the boss route calls for it. | Confirm the exact Boss Lure name, price, and objective before spending currency. |
| Quest / story items | Obtain through the related quest, conversion, hand-in, placed trigger, or preceding encounter. | Do not sell, cook, or discard the item until the current objective and NPC dialogue say the chain is complete. |
| Coconut | Public guides place it near the central palm-tree area on Island 3 for the Bing Bong route. | Check the live interaction prompt. The $350 figure is a dated public report, not a permanent price claim. |
The category matters because the wrong item can send you back to the shop or make a progression item look like ordinary bait.
Use this group for the normal catch pools. Match the lure with the Fishing Rod or Crab Fishing Rod listed in the Fishipedia row. A later island does not automatically mean every regular creature uses the newest lure.
Boss Lures are their own item family. Beginner Boss Lure, Standard Boss Lure, Professional Boss Lure, and Scientific Boss Lure map to special encounter targets, not the similarly named regular pools.
Empty Beer Can, Modified Leech, Carrot, Tuna, Fish Bucket, and Bowhead Whale are progression-sensitive objects. Their role can be a trigger, reward, or hand-in item rather than a shop lure.
Public sources use different names such as Goby/Golby, Brown Crab/Rock Crab, Boxfish/Yellow Boxfish, Free Lure/Basic Lure, and Hot Dog/Sausage. Use the current in-game Tab encyclopedia, item text, and objective as the final authority.
Find the creature in the lookup or Fishipedia database, then match its listed regular lure and rod. The island label is a useful route hint, but the catch pool is the first check.
Not for the boss relationships listed here. Boss encounters use a separate Boss Lure or a story trigger such as Modified Leech, Carrot, Fish Bucket, or a preceding creature.
Professional Boss Lure is listed for the Tuna encounter, while Tuna or its body is then used as the story trigger for the Albatross route. Treat the item as progression-sensitive once the objective calls for it.
The Patch 1.0.10 notes reviewed for this page document other fixes and balance changes, but do not clearly document a new regular catch pool, lure category, Boss Lure price, or Coconut price. Recheck the live UI after future patches.
No. This page maps public bait and catch-pool relationships. It does not claim exact drop rates, fixed spawn odds, guaranteed cast counts, exact boss health, or a single best weapon. This project has not verified the table through hands-on play.
Checked August 28, 2026. The current public version reviewed was Patch 1.0.10. The lure groups and special relationships were compared across GrindnStrat, Prodigy Gamers, How to Fish Game Wiki, GamesHub, AllThings. How, and ShowGamer.
Public sources disagree on some English labels, group names, counts, and whether a creature belongs to a regular pool or a special route. This page uses the site's Fishipedia data as a working reference and keeps Boss Lures, quest items, and special Coconut bait separate. The current in-game Tab encyclopedia, shop prompt, inventory text, and quest objective take priority.
No exact catch rates, fixed spawn timing, guaranteed cast count, exact boss health, permanent price, unique best lure, or hands-on gameplay result is claimed. This is an unofficial fan-made guide and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Dazed Games.
